From Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, a group of 20 St. Andrew’s students travelled to Boston to participate in the prestigious Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN), the largest high school Model UN conference in North America. With over 3,200 students from 60 countries in attendance, the event provided a dynamic, global forum for discussion on pressing geopolitical issues.
Throughout the three-day conference, students immersed themselves in 22 hours of rigorous committee sessions, where they represented various countries as delegates, debated international policies, and worked collaboratively to develop solutions to complex global challenges. Their efforts and diplomacy did not go unnoticed. Four of our students earned Honourable Mentions (third place) for their exceptional performances in committee discussions.
Congratulations to Clayton Y., Ibrahim S., and the joint delegation of Marco M. and Mack S. on this impressive achievement.
Beyond the conference, our students made the most of their time in Boston. On Friday morning, they toured Harvard University with Old Boy, Tinaye Ngormni ’23, a recent St. Andrew’s graduate now studying at the Ivy League institution. The group also explored several historic landmarks along the Freedom Trail, gaining a deeper appreciation for the city’s rich history and its influence on global affairs.
The HMUN experience was a test of our students’ diplomatic skills and an opportunity for intellectual growth, cultural exchange, and leadership development. Their participation and success at such a competitive event reflect the strength of the St. Andrew’s Model UN program and the dedication of our students to critical thinking, collaboration, and global citizenship.
Congratulations to all participants on a memorable and rewarding experience!
